CHRISTIAN BOOKS FOR THE PRAISE & GLORY OF GOD

"If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, then error will be. If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of this land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end."—Daniel Webster

Holiness: Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties, and Roots
J. C. Ryle

J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) was a Bishop (1880-1898) in the Anglican Church in the nineteenth century, one of the bright lights of that communion for all time. Ryle?s tracts and books were powerful, and have energized many souls. And they are still doing so even today.

Product Cover

This is a classic work that sets forth the Biblical doctrine of sanctification, in distinction from modern falsifications. He also gives thirteen clear distinctions between justification and sanctification. ?Are we holy? ?How stands the account between our souls and God?? ?Let us stand still a few minutes and consider the matter of holiness.? ?I might have chosen a subject more popular and pleasant. . . I might have found one more easy to handle. But I feel deeply that I could not have chosen one more seasonable and more profitable to our souls. It is a solemn thing to hear the Word of God saying,? ?Without holiness no man shall see the Lord? (Hebrews 12:14). What is holiness? (a) Holiness is the habit of being of one mind with God. (b) A holy one will endeavor to shun every known sin, and to keep every known commandment. (c) A holy one will strive to be like our Lord Jesus. (d) A holy one will follow after meekness, patience, long-suffering, . . . . He will and forebear much. (e) He will follow after temperance and self-denial. (f) He will follow after charity and love of fellow-saints. (g) He will follow after a spirit of benevolence and mercy towards others. He will follow after fear of God, humility, . . . Ryle?s writing is always expository, deeply devotional, easily understood, searching and sanctifying. The earlier one gets into this book, that much earlier will such a one be saved many griefs and hurtful errors.
