Learning in Christ's School
Ralph Venning
'Babes', 'little children', 'young men', and 'fathers' form the 'classes'
in the school of Christ which Ralph Venning describes in these pages.
These he presents as the stages in the renewal of human life leading up to
the 'academy of heaven'. We find them referred to in I Corinthians
3:1-2; Hebrews 5:12-14 and I John 2:12-14.

The several degrees or states through which
Christians pass to the measure and stature of the fullness of Christ are here
insisted upon and clearly explained, according to the rule of faith and with
great experience.
The greatest part of the discourse concerns those that make up the greatest part
of true Christians: the weak ones, or babes. Here will be found things of
a comforting character, which will contribute much to their establishing and
promote their advance to a greater degree of grace, till they come to the
assurance of the love of God by the witness of the Spirit which the children
enjoy. What is laid down in reference to the witness of the Spirit, some
may differ with in their conceptions. Yet the author's caution against
delusions are such that no person will have a reasonable ground to make any
exceptions.
