CHRISTIAN BOOKS FOR THE PRAISE & GLORY OF GOD

"If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, then error will be. If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of this land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end."—Daniel Webster

A Short History of the Westminster Assembly (Abridged)

William Beveridge

This little volume was originally printed in Edinburgh in 1904.  It provides a useful introductory discussion of the historical background of the Assembly and a brief overview of the Assembly's deliberations and works.

This book is revised and republished to provide, for those who have never read anything about the Assembly, a starting point for the study of Westminster.  As such, it will leave many questions unanswered (and unraised), and will bring to the reader's mind a number of others, no doubt.  But this is as it should be, for the editor hopes that the reading of this book might lead the student into further study of the Assembly.  Should this aim be realized, an annotated bibliography has been added to the work containing suggested reading in the most important primary and secondary sources.
